  15. rcsbreak \- Break locks owned by other people on RCS files

  18. \fBrcsbreak\fR \fIfile file ...\fR
  19. .SH DESCRIPTION

  21. \fBrcsbreak\fR is used to break RCS locks owned by others.  For each
  22. \fIfile\fR specified on the command line, the file will be changed to
  23. have been checked out by the person invoking \fBrcsbreak\fR.    The
  24. file itself is not modified, so it will continue to be owned by the
  25. original holder of the lock.  A typical use of \fBrcsbreak\fR is to
  26. obtain the lock in order to check a file in on behalf of another user,
  27. leaving the file writable:

  32. The \fBrcsdiff\fR program may be used to determine the changes already
  33. made to the file, for the purpose of logging the change.
  34. Alternatively, the \fBco\fP program may be used to check out the
  35. previous version of the file, discarding any changes made by the
  36. former holder of the lock.

  38. \fBrcsbreak\fR sends mail to the former owner of each lock it breaks,
  39. informing the owner that the lock has been broken.
